Coleman County Foundation Fall Grant Cycle Cancelled

The Coleman County Foundation (CCF) announced today that it will not be accepting grant applications this fall. Foundation board members voted to forego making grants to Coleman County nonprofits due to economic conditions and the ongoing concerns about volatility in the financial markets.

“This was a difficult decision for us because we understand the current needs of agencies in our County,” said Tim Manley, CCF Board Chair. “However, we also have to look at the larger picture. It is the Board’s fiduciary duty to protect the endowment from which grants are paid and the intent of that gift, which was to provide financial support to nonprofits in Coleman County for many years to come.”

The Coleman County Foundation was established in 1999 to help Coleman County residents give back to their community. Over the past 11 years, the Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 in grants to area agencies.

Coleman County Foundation awards over $42,000 in grants
12/15/2009

The Coleman County Foundation celebrated its 10 year anniversary by awarding 12 deserving community non-profit organizations a total of $42,250 in grants.

The Coleman County Foundation hosted its annual grant reception at the Coleman Public Library on Thursday, December 10th, 2009. Attendees included foundation board members, friends of the organization, staff members of the Community Foundation, and grant recipients.

Zac Allen, Coleman County Foundation chairman, formally welcomed the crowd and delivered a brief history of the Coleman County Foundation. The Foundation began in 1999 with an original gift of 1.7 million dollars from Holiday Hill. The late Clyde Allen along with the founding board were instrumental in providing key leadership for the Foundation. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over a half a million dollars in grant funds back into the community.

Holiday Hill's original gift institutionalized the Foundation, while a group called "Friends of the Coleman County Foundation" help sustain the organization by giving individual gifts (click here for a list of the members). Anyone interested in the Friends of the Coleman County Foundation can join by donating $100 or more to Friends of the Coleman County Foundation, Coleman County Foundation, P.O. Box 700, Coleman, Texas  76834.

The Board of Directors and the Community Foundation of Abilene provide leadership and direction for the organization. Coleman Board members include Zac Allen, Carla Finley, Tim Manley, Michael Taylor, Jo Tyson, Jill Atwood, Randy Turner, Ernie Yates and Roy Poage.

The 2009 grant committee awarded the following organization grants for their causes and projects:

C.H. Hale Prostate Cancer Foundation for the We Care project which provides emergency assistance and prescriptions for clients.

Friends of Coleman Co. Foundation Award Grants
12/3/2007

Friends of the Coleman County Foundation gathered last Thursday night at Sunnies in downtown Santa Anna to enjoy a wine tasting and light snacks but, more importantly, hand out checks to various organizations.

There are 126 members of the Friends group. Part of the money they pay in annual dues turns into grants to organizations who request assistance. This year, 14 proposals were received and considered by a committee made up of a dozen county residents. David Stewart and Sarah Beal served as chairmen of the Friends committee. After much consideration and discussion, the 14 requests were cut to seven finalists. Fewer grants were given this year but each contained more money than in the past.  Grants totaling $21,550 were given to the following:

Grant 1 - In the amount of $3,000 was given to the Coleman Career Center for skills training. Accepting on behalf of the Career Center was Richard Holloway, Coleman High School Prinicipal.

Grant 2 - In the amount of $3,000 went to the Coleman Christian Fellowship for roller skates. The Fellowship is a youth ministry located on East College in the former skating rink building. Skating is part of their outreach.

Grant 3 - In the amount of $1,800 was given to Coleman County Crimestoppers for signage and awards.

Grant 4 - In the amount of $3,500 to the Coleman Heritage, Arts and Preservation Society for ceiling fans and lights.

Grant 5 - In the amount of $2,115.00 to the Fine Arts League of Coleman County for a Commercial Gallery Hanging System for the Bill Franklin Center. The system will enhance and enlarge space for all future exhibits and provide needed hanging space for the art.

Grant 6 - In the amount of $4,635 to the Friends of the Coleman Public Library for books and education tools. Some of the money will help buy a laminating machine.

Grant 7 - In the amount of $3,500 to Matthew 25 Ministries for a new commercial freezer.
