came to an end on Saturday in a tough eight inning loss to
the Hawley Bearcats.

good base running by Colton Buzzard and again in the second

retaliated in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by
Chase Avants. After the fourth, the Bluecats were unable to
score again.
Casey Wilkerson tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth
with a two run home run. Emotions ran high in the sixth and
seventh innings due to a hit batsman and a controversial
call at second base, which led to both sides being warned.
In the bottom of the seventh inning pitcher Corbin Brooks
worked out of a one out, bases-loaded jam, temporarily
saving the Bluecat season. However, in the bottom of the
eighth, Hawley rallied to score on a game winning RBI single
by Wilkerson.
The Bluecats played hard and never gave up but came up a

instead, to a girl from Childress.

Regional Track Meet held at Elmer Gray Stadium at Abilene
Christian University. First place was won by a freshman from

Hawley
Advances, Coleman's Season Ends
4/28/2007
The
Hawley Lady Bearcats advance to the Area round of the 2-A
softball playoffs after beating the Bluekatts 17-4 Saturday
afternoon at Cooper Field in Abilene.
The
Katts scored first in the top of the first inning when
Amanda Brewer's hit drove home Kaneesha Graves.
Hawley quickly answered when their first batter swung and
hit the first pitch offered by Eden Duquette and knocked it
over the 210 ft. sign in center field, but that was the only
run scored in Hawley's half of the first.
Hawley added another run in the second but it was the bottom
of the third inning where the main damage was done by the
Lady Bearcats who took a 9-1 lead.
The Katts scratched back in the fourth when senior Amanda
Brewer doubled to right-centerfield to score Kaneesha Graves
and Rinn Norris making the score 9-3.
Hawley's fourth inning was just as big as the third with six
batters getting doubles and racking up eight more runs to
make the score 17-3.
Coleman's final run of the day, and of the season, was by
Carissa Zarate as the Katts called it a year 17-4.
The Katts lose seniors Lauren Golson (catcher), Kaneesha
Graves (third base) and Amanda Brewer (first base). The team
is made up primarily of sophomores and freshmen.
The Katts had a district record of 10-4 but lots to Hawley
15-0 and 17-4 in bi-district.
Hawley
Easily Takes Game One of Bi-District Series
4/27/2007
There
isn't much to say except Hawley dominated Coleman in
softball Friday afternoon at Abilene Cooper, taking a
decisive 15-0 victory from the Katts in the first game of a
best two out of three.
Both teams went three up and three down in the first inning
but the Hawley bats ignited in the top of the second when
they scored three runs. The big inning, however, was the
third as five more runs crossed the plate followed by two in
the fourth and another five in the fifth.
Coleman managed one hit which was a single to shallow center
field by Keagan Slayton in the bottom of the third. The
Katts were their own worst enemy at times, committing four
errors.
Game two of the series will be played at Abilene Cooper at
12:00 noon with game three, if needed, at 2:00pm.
Hawley is ranked 11th in the state in Class 2A softball.

Sunday 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. beginning May 26th continuing

apply by contacting Jace Staggs at 625-2665.
Katts Claim Playoff Spot
4/20/2007
A Carissa Zarate double in
the bottom of the 8th inning drove in Sarah Slayton and
Lauren Golson to give Coleman a 2-0 extra inning win against
Early Friday night which puts the Katts into the playoffs.
In what was the final regular season game, the Katts and
Longhorns battled to a scoreless tie after seven regulation
innings. Along the way, each team left runners stranded in
scoring position. But Zarate's hit assured the Katts of a
bi-district game against either Hawley or Coahoma at a site
to be determined, probably at the end of next week, a best
two out of three series may be played.
There was a scary moment during the game when Coleman's
Kaneesha Graves slid head first into second base. After
walking off the field several minutes later, the game was
halted and an ambulance called to take her to the hospital.
After examination, she managed to return to the field just
in time to celebrate the victory with the rest of the team.
The Katts ended district play with a record of 10-4.
Bluecats Bow to Longhorns

Concordia Golfer Matt Hadden Hits a Hole-in-One!
4/14/2007 (courtesy
Concordia University)
AUSTIN, TEXAS -
One of the hardest and most exciting plays in
any sport is the hole-in-one. Anyone who has ever played
golf dreams of getting that perfect ace the first time they
pick up a golf club. This play may seem impossible, but for
a Concordia golfer his dream came true, and the impossible
has now become a reality.
At a practice earlier this week, freshman golfer Matt Hadden
(Coleman, TX) posted a hole-in-one on a 189 yard par 3.
After much debate on what club to use, Hadden grabbed a five
iron, and swung away at the par 3 over the water. With two
short hops the ball dropped in the hole, and Matt Hadden
could not have been any happier! This was the first time he
had ever been apart of or seen a hole-in-one.

Katts Lose
Heartbreaker to Wall
4/12/2007
Wall scored all their
runs in innings four through six to beat the Coleman
Bluekatts 7-6 Wednesday in softball at CHS.
After three complete innings the Bluekatts held a 5-0
lead. The five runs came when Cheyenne Turner drove in
Keagan Slayton, Kaneesha Graves singled to drive in Rynn
Norris, Carissa Zarate doubled to drive home Amanda
Brewer, then Graves and Zarate both scored on an error
by Wall.
Wall fought back in the top of the fourth and scored
three runs. The Katts added their final run of the day
in the bottom of the fourth inning as Zarate drove home
Graves. In the top of the fifth inning, Wall added two
more runs making it a 6-5 game.
The game got away from the Katts in the top of the sixth
when Wall scored twice. The Katts had a chance in the
sixth putting runners at 2nd and 3rd but the Wall third
baseman made two good plays to throw out runners at
first. In their final at-bat, the Katts went three up,
three down.
The loss doesn't mean the end of the world as the Katts
are still in third place and still have a shot at the
playoffs with a record of 8-4.

4/6/2007
The Bluecats had beaten
Grape Creek last month but the Eagles turned the table
Friday with a 7-5 win over the Bluecats. The Bluecats
now have a record of 5-4, still very much in the hunt
for a playoff spot in a log jammed district.
The Bluecats led 5-3 going into the late innings but a
four run inning by Grape Creek put them ahead for good.

The Coleman Bluekatt softball team remains securely
positioned at third place in district with a 3-0 victory
Thursday afternoon against Grape Creek. The Katts are
now 8-3 with three district games remaining, the next
one against Wall Monday at 4:30 in Coleman.
The Katts scored two runs in the bottom of the first
inning as Kaneesha Graves and Lauren Golson reached base
to be driven home by a double from Carissa Zarate.
The other Katt run came in the fourth inning when Keagan
Slayton singled to drive home Jessica Morales.
Eden
Duquette was the winning pitcher.

Back to Beat Bangs
4/4/2007
After a loss to Jim Ned
Monday, the Coleman Bluecats beat the Bangs Dragons 7-3
Tuesday on the home turf. The win puts their district
record at 5-3.
(Thanks to Dr. Paul Reynolds for the following
information on the game)
* Coleman had numerous stolen bases, bunted well and
kept the Bangs team off balance all day.
* Chase Avants had a stellar pitching performance,
including starting 2 double plays. Dalton Deleon stepped
in and played 2b for the first time this year. Dalton
had an error free performance with 5 put outs.
* Bangs has been a perennial power, and I personally
cannot remember the last time Coleman has beaten them.

Katts Return to Win
Column
4/4/2007
After their loss to Jim Ned Monday, the
Bluekatt softball team returned to true form Tuesday
beating the Bangs Lady Dragons 12-2. The game ended
early on the 10 run rule. Coleman is now 7-3 in
district.
The Katts didn't waste any time getting on the
scoreboard by jumping out to an early 5-0 lead after one
inning. A double from Carissa Zarate and a triple by
Jessica Morales drove in runs as did a bases loaded
single by Amanda Brewer.
From then on, the Katts added runs in the bottom of the
second, bottom of the fourth and bottom of the fifth.
Kaneesha Graves stole home on a passed ball to get the
10th run needed to end the game.
Katts Errors Lead to Jim
Ned Victory
4/2/2007
The Jim Ned Lady Indians continue to hold
down first place in district with a 5-2 victory
Monday evening against Coleman. The Katts
entered the game in third place, behind Early, and
now have a district record of 6-3.
As
was the case in their last game, the Katts had their
chances but errors allowed runs to cross the plate for
Jim Ned. The Lady Indians scored 2 runs in the top of
the first but the Katts fought back to tie the game 2-2
after a Carissa Zarate triple drove in Eden Duquette and
Lauren Golson.
It was a pitchers duel until the top of the fifth which
is when misfortune reared its ugly head. Jim Ned quickly
loaded the bases and scored on single and on a Katt
throwing error. A sacrifice fly to center field drove in
a run to give Jim Ned 5, all they would need the rest of
the game.
The game had its bright spots for the Katts who were
able to make contact off a fast Jim Ned pitcher,
highlighted by Zarate's two RBI triple. In center field
Keagan Slayton made several nice running catches,
including the one pictured as she returns the ball to
the infield with Rynn Norris looking on.
But eight errors on Coleman was the difference in the
game, a game much closer than the first meeting between
these two schools.
The Katts play Bangs at 4:30pm Tuesday at
CHS.
