Katts and
Bluecats Fall to Wall
12/22/2007
The Wall
Lady Hawks are good, period. They used their
considerable skill, height and upper classman experience
to beat the much younger Bluekatts 60 to 26 Friday night
at the CHS gym. The Katts are now 1-2 in district. The
Katts will play in the Eula Tournament this coming week
with their first game at 8:00am Thursday against
Eastland.
The Hawk boys got revenge from their loss to the
Bluecats earlier this year on the football field, with a
sound 59-38 victory. This was the first district game
for the Bluecats, consequently they are 0-1 in district
6AA play. The boys are also scheduled to compete
in the Eula Classic December 27-29.
Other scores from Friday night: JV boys - Wall 66,
Coleman 27. JV Girls - Wall 35, Coleman 24.
Bluecats
Lose Another Close One
12/19/2007
The Bluecats are "this
close" to victory each game, but missed free throws
Tuesday night cost them a victory against Sweetwater by
a final score of 52-50.
Sweetwater did most of the leading while the Bluecats
played catch up most of the night but by the fourth
quarter, the Bluecats actually caught and passed the
Mustangs 37-36 on a three-point bucket from Dalton
DeLeon with 6:50 remaining.
With 3:10 to go in the game, the score was tied 44-44.
With 2:03, two free throws by DeLeon edged the Bluecats
back in front 46-44 but a quick trip down the court and
score by the Mustangs tied the game again.
With only
a few seconds left Kyle Hart hit a field goal that
pulled the Bluecats close, but time ran out.
The Bluecats open district against Wall, here at home,
this Friday night.
The Katts did not play
Tuesday night but continue district play, here at home,
Friday night against Wall. The Katts are 1-1 in
district.

Crossing
Paths
12/17/2007
Hello my name is Alex, I am from the Lubbock area. I
work in sports medicine.
Two years ago I was working at an Offense/Defense camp
in San Antonio, Texas. I came across a young man from
the Coleman area. He was very kind and very respectful
and funny. He even shook my hand. How many 16 year olds
do that? During this time at camp he was of those
players that loves the contact part of this sport, not
only that he knew what he was doing. He was a leader to
the other young men. The coaches at camp spoke highly of
him. He was voted MVP on defense I believe. At camp the
coaches called him Stan the Man. He is the type of
football player coaches love to coach. He will give you
all he has and more.
A year later I went to watch Coleman play Strafford in
Lubbock. A certain player caught my eye, #32. He just
stood out. You could tell he wanted to win this game so
bad. You could see it in his face and emotions on the
sideline said it all, he was also trying to get his team
fired up. Well when the game ended I realized this #32
was the same young man at camp. I looked at a program on
the ground and looked at the list of players and there
was his name, Stanley Cole. And just a sophomore,
Wow.... Since then I became a Coleman Bluecat fan. I
have also kept with him playing via the computer. Good
job Colemannews.
I just wanted to say to the young man congrats for
having a great year and on making the district's second
team defense, though I think he should of made the first
team. He has a bright future ahead of him. And yes I can
see him playing at a college level. He has what it takes
to continue after High School. I just want to say to the
people of Coleman if the rest of your kids are anything
like this young man, you all should be proud. His
parents should be very proud. Stan, even though I
crossed paths with you a couple of times and you may not
remember me, you have made an impression on me and my
wife. Looking forward to next year. Stan, keep your head
up and keep reaching for the stars.
Sincerely
Your #1 fans from the north

Field Goal Update
12/3/2007
During the Bluecat football game against Canadian, Oscar
Villeda kicked a 40 yard field goal early in the
contest. We were curious to see how long it has been
since a Coleman kicker had booted one that far.
Former Bluecat Brody Smith says he believes Wes Jones
was the last to do it in the 2000 season, kicking a 42
yard field goal against Bangs en route to being selected
as 1st Team All-State Kicker.
Canadian
Edges Coleman for Regional Championship
12/3/2007
An exciting Bluecat football season came to an end
Saturday afternoon at Wolfforth Frenship as the Canadian
Wildcats defeated the Coleman Bluecats 21-18.
Game Summary
The Bluecats took the opening kickoff and ended their
first series with a Jordan Robinson punt to the Canadian
28.
The Wildcats first offensive series was halted by an
interception by Coleman's Stanley Cole. Once again, the
Bluecat offense was halted and another punt by Robinson
put Canadian at their own 13.
After marching downfield, Wildcat kicker Dylan Weaver's
field goal attempt hit the upright and missed.
Taking
over at their own 26, the Bluecat offense put a drive
together late in the first quarter which ended on a 40
yard field goal by Oscar Villeda with 11:44 left in the
2nd quarter. (Can someone tell us the last time a
Bluecat kicker made one from 40 yards?)
Both team's offenses struggled through much of the 2nd
as the punters from both sides showed up regularly until
5:15 remaining in the quarter when Colton Buzzard
connected with Dalton DeLeon on a 32 yard touchdown
pass. Villeda's point after gave the Bluecats a 10-0
lead. (Deleon is shown left in this Gary
Strickland photo of the TD)
With momentum in hand, the Bluecat defense stopped the
next Canadian series but the Wildcats returned the favor
and forced the Bluecats to punt again. Just before
halftime, Canadian quarterback Coleman Bentley lead his
team on a 75 yard scoring drive, culminating with a 22
yard pass from Bentley to Danny Reyes with only 9
seconds left before half. The point after made the
halftime score Coleman 10, Canadian 7. The
momentum was with Canadian.
With renewed enthusiasm, Canadian struck first in the
3rd quarter on an 8 yard run by Guerrero. The point
after gave the Wildcats their first lead, 14-10, with
6:42 remaining in the 3rd.
The rest of the 3rd quarter featured a Bluecat pass
being picked off, punts by both teams and a missed field
goal by Canadian.
Another big turning point was when the Bluecats failed
to convert a 4th down and 4 play with 6:34 left in the
game. The ball went over on possessions and set up the
final scoring drive of the day for the Wildcats which
culminated in a short run by Guerrero making the score
21-10 with 2:14 left in the game.
The Bluecats went into a hurry-up offense and marched
from their 35 into the end zone on a 2 yard Colton
Buzzard run with 30 seconds left. Buzzard passed to
Stanley Cole to bring the score to 21-18.
The only thing left, and everyone knew it, was an onside
kick from Villeda which went nine yards and was pounced
on by the Wildcats who ran out the clock and claimed the
Regional Championship. They move on to play Idalou this
week.
STATS
First downs - Canadian 18, Coleman 11
Rushing - Coleman 35 for 99 yards, Canadian 34 carries
for 98 yards
Passing - Canadian 23 of 34 for 201 yards and 1 int,
Coleman 8 of 21 for 105 yards and 1 int.
Punts - Coleman 4 for 43 yard average, Canadian 4 for a
23 yard average
Penalties - Canadian 3 for 24 yards, Coleman 2 for 12
yards
It leaves an empty feeling in your gut, knowing a state
football championship will have to wait another year. It
also makes your chest swell with pride knowing the
Bluecats continue to put Coleman on the football map
each year and are now expected to win, expected to be
ranked, expected to make the playoffs. It's good for our
kids, good for our school system, good for our town. It
was fun. Thanks Bluecats coaches, players, band, flag
corps, cheerleaders and others involved who made this
another special football season.
