Ballinger Tops Katts in
Softball
2/26/2008
Miserable doesn't even begin to describe the weather
conditions the Bluekatts and Ballinger Lady Cats played
in Monday afternoon in Ballinger. With wind over 40mph,
blowing dust and blowing infield, the two rivals squared
off and duked it out for 7 rounds, er, innings. We
hesitate to say when the dust had settled (because it
never did), Ballinger won the first district game of the
year 16-15. The Katts will play in the Sweetwater
Tournament starting this Thursday.

Duquette Named in Reporter-News
Top 10 Players of the Week
2/21/2008
Coleman Bluekatt junior Eden Duquette, a
pitcher/infielder for the Coleman Bluekatts, put up some
impressive numbers recently which earned her a spot on
Evan's Top 10.
Comments as follows: "Despite softball's early start,
Duquette is already playing like it's mid April. In a
17-0 win over Goldthwaite, she worked three shutout
innings (striking out six), and went 3-for-4 at the
plate with a double, two triples and six RBIs. Not too
shabby for a February debut."
Honorable Mention: Rynn Norris, pitcher/infielder,
Soph., Coleman softball (tossed two shutout innings,
3-for-4 with two runs scored vs. Goldthwaite); Amanda
Gober, catcher, Fr., Coleman softball (2-for-3 with
three RBIs vs. Goldthwaite)

activities this year.
According to Coach Kim Smith, the first fundraiser is a
Hit-a-Thon on Monday, February 25. Varsity and junior
varsity players will get pledges from the general public.
Pledges will donate a specific dollar amount per hit and
players will generate money determined by the number of hits
they get.
The teams will also be raffling off four tickets to a Texas
Ranger's game plus $200 expense money. The plan is to do
this each month through the end of baseball season with the
first drawing on February 26th which corresponds with the
Bluecat home game against Miles.

Bluecats Win Against Grape Creek
Katts Fall to Lady Eagles
1/19/2008
It was a nail biter, one the Bluecats almost gave away but
the Eagles couldn't take advantage of Bluecat kindness. The
final score was Coleman 58, Grape Creek 56. With 15 seconds
left in the game, all the Bluecats had to do was run out the
clock, or draw a foul. Instead, they drove down the floor,
shot and missed with 6 seconds left, which gave Grape Creek
another opportunity. Luckily for Coleman, the Eagles botched
the opportunity and the game came to a close with the
Bluecats winning their second district game, they are 2-7.
Colton Buzzard led the way in scoring with 19 followed by
Dalton DeLeon 13, Jamal Agbor 7, Jack Reynolds 5, Glen
Edington 4, Bronson Buzzard 4, Casey Lofton 3, N'difon Agbor
3.
Shown Above - Casey Lofton (35) and Jack Reynolds (20) go up
for a loose ball and have position over two Grape Creek
defenders.
In the girl's game, the Katts fell behind early, 16-0 at one
point, and never could get back in the game the rest of the
night. The final was Grape Creek 47, Coleman 26. The Katts
are now 2-7 in district. Scoring were Jessica Morales 8,
Carissa Zarate 5, Erin Strickland 5, Jacy Payne 3, Sarah
Lofton, 2, Nicole Heath 2, Rene Salas 1. The Katts got most
of their points at the free throw line, making 17 of 26.
In JV action, the Katts beat the Grape Creek girls 48-11.
Sonya Cruz was high point with 15 followed by Victoria Cruz
10, Tabitha Terrell 8, Mercedes Taylor 6, Angelina Marks 4,
Nancy Cruz 3, Shelbie DeLeon 2. Coach Joy Thompson was very
proud of how her team played, now 14-4 on the season and 7-2
in district. Tabitha also had 10 assists, Nancy had 6
steals, Angelina and Sonya both recorded 7 rebounds.
The JV boys lost a close one to Grape Creek, 36-33.

Bluecats and Katts Lose Games to
Early
1/6/2008
The Bluecat boys and girls basketball teams played in Early
on Saturday night as schools continue their district
basketball games on a rare Saturday night, due to the
holiday schedule.
In the girls game, the Katts played a much taller Lady
Longhorn group, losing 72-48. The teams were separated by
only one point after the first quarter, Early 13, Coleman
12. It was the first few minutes of the second quarter that
Early shifted into another gear and scored 27 points while
containing the Katts to just 10. Coleman held the edge in
the third quarter, outscoring Early 14-12. Early outscored
Coleman 20-12 in the fourth.
Scoring for the Katts were Carissa Zarate 13, Sarah Lofton
12, Jacy Payne 6, Jessica Morales 6, Cheyenne Turner 5,
Amanda Gober 3, Nicole Heath 2, Erin Strickland 2. The Katts
are now 1-4 in district. In the Photo - Jacy
Payne controlled the tip-off for the Katts to begin the
game.
In the boys game, Early topped Coleman 68-53. Just as the
Longhorns had a big size difference over the Bluecats in
football, those same tall players were tough to shoot over
in basketball. The Bluecats, however, played a very good
game and challenged throughout. The halftime score was Early
30, Coleman 28. After three quarters, Early still led 45-36.
The Bluecats are now 1-2 in district. We hope to have
individual scoring soon.
