25th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

Alan and Tawnya Davis will be honored with a 25th wedding anniversary celebration. The happy occasion will be held March 20, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 p.m at Coleman County State Bank Clubroom, 3rd Floor.

Alan’s parents are Bobby and Betsy Davis of Glen Cove. Tawnya’s parents are O.J. and Jackie Murray of Winters.
Alan and Tawnya were married March 16, 1985 at the First United Methodist Church, Winters, Texas.

Their sons are Dustin and his wife, Menda Speckels of Kyle, TX and Trent Davis of College Station, TX. They have been blessed with one beautiful granddaughter, Brylee Speck-els.

All friends and family are invited to celebrate this very happy occasion. They request “no gifts, please, your presence will be their gift”.

Thank you to Brother Jeff Moore and the North Coleman Baptist Church family for providing lunch to his family, and all who provided food and flowers, and monetary donations in our time of need.

Specialist Alisha Dobbins joined the United States Army in May of 08 Right after she graduated high school. That was her dream. She Graduated Boot Camp and A.I.T. In Fort Jackson South Carolina she is a strong willed person and always thinks of others. Attending her Graduation was her very proud parents Ovie and Carolyn Dobbins who had to sign Specialist Dobbins in the Army because she was only 17 years old at the time.

After Graduating Specialist Dobbins Went on to Airborne School in Fort Benning Georgia Specialist Dobbins Was then stationed at Fort Drum New York and is currently still there.

Specialist Dobbins has been in Fort Drum Since the beginning of '09 Specialist Dobbins has achieved and mastered many things since she joined. Getting a promotion about every 6 months Specialist Dobbins started out as an E-1 and is now a Specialist in less than 2 years. Specialist Dobbins Family is Ovie and Carolyn Dobbins of Brownwood one Brother Justin Dobbins of Brownwood.

A very Special aunt of Coleman, Dorothy Farris, another special aunt of Coleman, Eura Royall, and other relatives of Coleman, Grandparents, uncle, aunts and cousin. A Grand Mother of Tyler, Tx Alice Terry, Special uncle John Terry, other aunt and uncles are Bobby Tillman and wife of Oklahoma Shirley and Jimmy Crabtree of Tyler, Casey and Debra Brown of Tyler, Patricia Harding of Longview, Tx, Ray Terry Of Tyler, Robert and Lisa Shipp of Tyler, Gary Tillman of Oklahoma and lots of cousin to many to mention whom are all extremely proud of her. GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY ANNOUNCEMENT

Wilbert and Jerry Dobbins will be honored with a 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration, that is happily being hosted by their Children and Grandchildren. The happy occasion will be held Saturday, February 27th from 3:00 6:00 at First Coleman National Bank Hospitality Room, 3rd Floor.

Wilbert and Jerry married on February 23, 1960 in Coleman County. Although their parents thought they were too young to get married (especially Jerry's dad), they were determined to begin their lives together. They received their parents approval and were married on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30.

A little over a year later, they began their family. Adding to the family during the first six years, they were blessed with one daughter and three sons. Their children are Debbie, Wesley, Ovie and Wally. Later, came the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wilbert and Jerry have welcomed 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Wilbert attended Coleman schools. He has worked many years as a Roofing Contractor and an Oil Field Pumper. He also worked for Martin Brick Company when the company was still in business. Wilbert still continues to be an Oil Field Pumper and is not ready to retire yet. Wilbert also served as a Deacon in his church, taught Sunday school classes and drove the church bus for many years. You will also find Wilbert taking care of his many animals and tinkering with any type of raw wood that he can get his hands on. His wood workshop is his home away from home. His love of tractors and plowing also keeps him very busy.

Jerry also attended Coleman schools. Jerry devoted her earlier years raising their children and being a stay-at-home-mom. Over the years, she has worked in several retail businesses in Coleman. Jerry also achieved her dream and received her Nurses Aide Certificate, while the children were young. She also worked part-time in a local nursing home after she received her nursing certificate. Alongside Wilbert, she has also supported her local church by teaching Sunday school classes and helping with the church bus route. In her spare time, you will find Jerry mowing the yard, pulling weeds, planting another tree or searching for the best garage sale. As Wilbert, she isn't ready to completely retire and they both also stay very busy attending their grandchildren's activities.

To celebrate this very happy occasion and to celebrate Fifty Years of Marriage, the Children and Grandchildren would like to extend a very special invitation to all friends and family. Please stop by, share a favorite memory or two, have a slice of cake and wish Wilbert & Jerry many, many more years of marriage!

Dustin is the son of Lynn and Trisha Owens and Johnny and Jan Todd, all of Coleman. Dustin is the grandson of Paul and the late Billie Puckett and Helen and the late Jerry Todd, all of Coleman.

Dustin is a graduate of Coleman High School and a graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise and Sports Science. Dustin is currently employed by Big Spring Independent School District.

Courtney and Dustin will exchange wedding vows April 17, 2010, in Abilene at Erinshire Gardens.

CHS ALUM GRADUATES FROM ARMY'S ADVANCED INDIVIDUAL TRAINING SCHOOL

United States Army Private First Class Jeremy R. Jameson completed his Advanced Individual Training (AIT), and graduated on January 22nd from Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. PFC Jameson graduated into a proud military tradition within the United States Army Medical Department (US AMEDD), which is the enduring legacy of the Combat Medic.

Military medical training is physically, mentally and emotionally demanding. To graduate from AIT, soldiers must pass difficult qualification tests such as the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), validate on various practical medical skills such as initiating IV lines for fluid support, administering immunizations, providing pediatric and geriatric healthcare, identifying and treating neurological and physiological disorders, as well as perform basic Soldier skills and maintain physical fitness. The mission is to ensure Soldiers have the opportunity to prosper and to successfully transition to military life as the competent and caring Soldier-Medic.

"The successful completion of AIT is an important event for our Soldiers. The transformation that your Soldier has undergone to become a United States Army Soldier-Medic is both impressive and awe-inspiring. They press ever forward, testing the meaning of their new experiences by putting lessons learned to work and renewing their dedication to their sacred charge-Conserving the Fighting Strength. PFC Jameson is a 2009 Coleman High School graduate. Attending the US Army AIT Graduation at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio were his very proud parents, Rex and Debbie Jameson of Coleman, sister and brother-in-law, Ashley and Dwayne Myers of Arlington, and grandparents, Wilbert & Jerry Dobbins of Coleman.

Monica (Halfmann) Minzenmayer graduated with a Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Angelo State University. She received her master’s degree during the fall graduation ceremony held on December 12, 2009 at the Junell Center in San Angelo, Texas. She is the daughter of Richard and Debra Halfmann of O.H. Ivie Reservoir and is married to Paul Minzenmayer of Rowena.

Monica is a 2000 graduate of Panther Creek High School. In 2004, she received a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Child Development & Learning from Angelo State University. She worked as an elementary school teacher for 3 years following graduation. Currently, Monica enjoys staying home raising their two children, Matthew age 2 and Elizabeth age 1. Monica and Paul also own High Cotton Farms and farm and ranch in Runnels County.

Panther Creek Graduate Named “Airman of the Year”

. . . for 29th Attack Squadron at Holloman AFB, NM Senior Airman Jon Turney, was recently selected as Airman of the Year for the 29th Attack Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, where he serves as an instructor. Jon has been a member of the Air Force since December 11, 2006 and has received several commendations for his outstanding performance of supporting troops from the air.

Jon is a graduate of Panther Creek High School - Class of 2003, and attended Angelo State University before joining the Air Force. He currently resides in New Mexico with his wife Haley, and his son Rex. They are expecting their second son this summer. Jon is the son of Mark and Marsha Turney, brother to Matt Turney and grandson of Edith Turney and the late Rex Turney of Santa Anna and Lovera Strickland and the late Jack Strickland of Burkett.

Kendra is a 2001 graduate of Reagan County High School and a 2005 graduate of Angelo State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Kendra is currently in her fourth year teaching first grade at McCamey Primary School in McCamey, TX.

Zackary is a 2003 graduate of Coleman High School and a 2006 graduate of Angelo State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Zackary is currently attending Texas Department of Public Safety Academy in Austin. Upon his graduation on April 9, he will be assigned a position to the Highway Patrol Service in Rankin, Texas. After their wedding, Kendra and Zackary plan on making their home in McCamey, TX.

Local Couple Will Celebrate 75th Wedding Anniversary

Paul was born December 25, 1914 in Gouldbusk to Dolph and Alma Smith. He attended Gouldbusk school, and graduated in 1931; but as Gouldbusk only had eleven grades, he got permission from his Mom and Dad to attend Coleman High School so he could play football. It was his senior year in Coleman that he met Mary Anita Forman. They were married in Gouldbusk on February 9, 1935.

Anita was born August 17, 1916 in Valera, to Lon and Mary Forman. They both graduated from Coleman High School in 1934. In 1941, they leased a farm north of Mozelle and went into full time farming and a dairy business. They milked cows by hand and delivered milk to their neighbors. In 1947, they bought a farm two miles east of Mozelle where they farmed and raised Hereford cattle.

On November 2, 1952, Paul surrendered to the ministry, in the Gouldbusk Baptist Church. He was licensed by the Church and was ordained on March 8, 1953. He pastored the Gouldbusk Church until November, 1954. He was called to the Concho Baptist Church and pastored the church for twenty-two years. In 1978 he was called by Community Baptist Church, as their pastor, where he is still pastor.

Paul and Anita have two daughters, Patricia Robinson and Anne Smith, of Abilene; three grandchildren: Mike and Suzanne Robinson of Novice, Misty Mach of Abilene; five great-grandchildren: Amber, Monty, Lacy, Dustin and Brittany of Abilene. Grandson Mark Robinson passed away in 2000.

A reception for Paul and Anita will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall this Saturday, February 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Friends, family and all who love and appreciate them are welcome and encouraged to come by and “visit a spell”.
